Understand and Interact

The international scene is a kaleidoscope of culturally different practices which all have their own specific historical, social, religious, geographical, and even behavioral norms and values.

CulturekeY is aiming at providing you keys to better interact with culturally diverse business partners in order to reach satisfactory business relationships. Ultimately, Trust is what matters.

CulturekeY invites you to the following journey:

Let it be:

Be yourself: how you think, what you do and say is determined by who you are and there are plenty of reasons to support you are right. Express and explain them in order for others to better understand you.
Understand other people’s values and frameworks as they are the foundations of their mindset and how they see and interact with the world. We’ll guide you to become more aware of it.

We are all free to decide whether things should be “our way or the highway” but let’s reflect and decide on what added value bridging cultural differences would create for us and the others. How we adjust bearing in mind our differences will make a huge difference.

With a little help from my friends:

Assume and be congruent but know how to compromise and partner when common interest is at stake. Developing cross border relationships, doing global business is a matter of trust and reciprocity. Bonding may have different rules and codes but in the end it is about trusting one another.

The CulturekeY Methodology: 4A

A like Awareness:

Informing, perceiving, sensing, tasting, feeling the differences that we are confronted to. The aim is to just know that those differences exist and will always be there to highlight “otherness”

A like Acceptance:

Learning to understand the meaning behind what we perceive as different enables us to accept that these are established facts and habits and which we don’t necessarily have to agree with.

A like Adaptation:

Living in and working with culturally different environments may require we develop new strategies to interact appropriately in order to reach agreements or achieve our goals or simply create new living harmony. At this stage it is important we reinforce existing skills and competencies as well as develop new ones. This is how we demonstrate our cross-cultural flexibility: consciously and respectfully.

A like Adoption/Assimilation:

Only if we decide, and because events and experience have proven truly beneficial to us, may we consider expanding our values framework by taking into it new references that were previously not ours.
